Andy Wood, Signature Suhr Guitar Interview

February 7, 2018 By Sam Green Leave a Comment

Who is Andy Wood?

Hailing from Knoxville, TN, Andy Wood is a ferocious slayer of both the mandolin and guitar. From the start of his musical journey playing traditional bluegrass on the mandolin to playing guitar on tour with groups such as Rascal Flatts, LOCASH, Scott Stapp, and Sebastian Bach, Andy has proven himself to be a very versatile and capable musician. In addition to touring with national headlining acts, he has released two impressive solo albums, A Disconcerting Amalgam and Caught Between the Truth and A Lie, showcasing his fiery hybrid of rock and country guitar playing and his mandolin-based bluegrass roots. His most recent release, LIVE at the Bijou, features Andy and a diverse group of talented musicians performing many of his original tunes as well as fresh takes on popular standards all performed live in front of a sold-out crowd at the historic Bijou Theatre in Knoxville, TN. Check out the links below to read more about Andy and find out how and where to enjoy his music.

Guitar Ramble Interviews Andy at NAMM 2018

While at NAMM this year, we had a chance to speak with Andy about the new whiskey barrel finish available soon on his signature Suhr guitar. Released in 2017, the Andy Wood Signature guitar is currently available in two finishes based on iconic Ironman characters: black with silver pickguard (War Machine) and red with gold pickguard (Ironman). These tele style guitars feature a mix of classic styling with modern appointments such as 24 frets, locking tuners, and a sculpted, all-access heel joint.  Two pickup and bridge options are available. The black and silver version comes with two Thornbucker humbucker pickups and a Gotoh tremolo while the red and gold version has a more classic set up with two Woodshed single coil pickups and a three-saddle vintage style bridge. The upcoming whiskey barrel finished version features the same pickups and bridge combination as the red and gold version. All of these guitars feature a unique torched swamp ash body and roasted maple neck with jumbo stainless steel frets. Check out the YouTube video below to hear Andy describe and demo this guitar.
